The Daniel Family

The Daniel Family long before Seaborn F. Daniel (1829-1905) are believed to have originated in either Argyle, Scotland or one of the Isles off the west coast of Scotland.  The name Daniel is an anglicization of Dubnall, the Gaelic form of Donald or Daniel interchageably.  Of course, this is the name of the famous seagoing Donald Clan, better know as the MacDonalds.  The Daniel Family is recognized as a Sept, or sub-family of the Highland Clan Donald.

 

In all likelihood, the Daniel's were probably MacDaniel when they emigrated to North Carolina prior to the American Revolutionary War.  While not yet proven, that seems to be the way research is heading.  Lets start with a rundown on the known family to this point:
