These images of Jeremiah, left, and Lucinda, right, are photo copies of tintypes of the couple probably taken around 1865 in the latter days of tintype photography when paper photos, card d vis, came into common usage. If so, that would make Jeremiah about 40 years old and Lucinda about 34. Photos came from Ross Cameron, a Lebow cousin.

Family legned has it that Lucinda was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian and particpated in the "Trail of Tears" in 1842, ending up in Centralia, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma). This was near Welch, OK. However, further research since moving to East Tennessee in 2005 confirm that Lucind'as mother, Barbara Emert, stems from the German Emert family in Emert's Cove, near Gatlinburg, in Sevier Co., Tennessee. Lucinda's father, John Nelson Rainwater, also appears to be German. The name 'Rainwater' is said to be anglicized from the German name, 'Rawasser'.
Note: Lucinda's pension application records, as provided by Ross Cameron are in CP's notebook.

It appears that Jeremiah was born with the name spelled 'Leabo' and entered the Union army as such. He may have changed it to Lebow as it would appear most of his children spelled it that way however, his gravestone remains with the original spelling.
As a young child, Jeremiah's family moved to Ray Co., Missouri before 1830. Records show that Jeremiah served in the Union army during the Civil War - the 6th Missouri Volunteers Cavalry, Co. D, under Capt. Turner. He enlisted in February 1862 and was discharged in 1863. Notes on the back of his military record indicates he was 5'8" tall, had black hair and hazel eyes and a fairly dark complexion. He listed his occupation as a farmer.
Jeremiah married Lucinda on 27 May 1846. Apparently Solomon Craven performed the ceremony. Below his signature is the following quote: "The signature of Soloemon Craven is designed to apply equally to the two last certificates to be filed for record 7th August AD 1846, R. Levier, Recorder". I believe that to mean that the license & marriage are one and the same document.(cp)
Jeremiah, Lucinda & family left Ray Co., Mo in 1869 and moved to S.E. Missouri. Deed records and census show them in Smith Township, Dade Co. in 1870. They moved to Bowers Hill in Lawrence Co, MO by 1872 and to Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co. in 1873. They moved to Greene Co., MO in 1883.
Both Jeremiah and Lucinda are buried in Evergreen Cemetery outside of Republic, Greene Co., Missouri.
