RoseCrag Genealogy

Genealogy is like a distillery warehouse......lots of secrets hidden in dark corners & containers......and all very intoxicating!

This page is being constructed from over 300 pages of information provided by six different Leabo/Lebow cousin researchers.  As a Certified Genealogist, we will try to make it as accurate as possible, citing sources whenever we can.  However, we'll also include stories and legends in hope of getting folks to contact us who may know more of the story.  Please contact us at genealogy@rose316.com to share any information or ask any questions.

Lebeaux/Lebo/Leabo/Lebow    Legend has it that our family were French Hugoenots (Protestants in the 16th & 17th centuries) who were expelled from France by the Catholic King and moved to Alsace Lorraine.  It is thought that Johannes Lebeaux married Judith Hanotiaux and began a journey that, over the next three centuries, would take the family through Germany, England, Pennsylvania, Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, East Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and some all the way to Oregon.

Our first known ancestors, Johannes Lebeaux & Judith Hanotiaux are speculative and romantic ancestors as we don't know where the story comes from.  Johannes was reported born in 1683 in Alsace, France while Judith was born in London about 1685. The couple and their three children immigrated to Reading, Berkes Co., Pennsylvania by 1724 and settle there with many descendants remaining even today.  (We'll try to build a page on this portion of the family as soon as we can)

2nd GENERATIONJohn Abraham Lebo (anglicized from Lebeaux) was born in the Palantine about 1708 and came to Reading, Berkes Co., PA with his parents, Johannes & Judith Lebeaux.  He married Anna Maria Schreiver and raised their family in Berkes county.  John Abraham died in Germany Township, Adams Co., PA about 1775.  Anna Maria died 8 May 1801 in Silver Run, Carrollo Co., MD.    (look for more data later)

3rd GENERATIONIsaac Lebo was born about 1736 in Reading, Berkes Co., Pennsylvania.  In 1762, he married Sabina Whitley.  Isaac is thought to have been a Tory during the Revolution and was apparently convicted of a crime that landed him working the the Continental Army Commissary in Virginia.
