Research Services - $25 per hour*

Unlocking the Secrets of Your Heritage

There are no ‘hard and fast’ rules concerning genealogy research. One person’s ancestor may be readily available due to public prominence of the ancestor or research work previously done by other descendants. Another person’s ancestor may be more obscure for any number of reasons. It is easier, for example, to find a soldier than a farmer, a landowner versus a sharecropper, a business owner versus an employee, etc.

Examples of research hours expended for past clients:

Basic: Verify an ancestor’s presence/existence thru U.S. Census, Military Records, Public Records, Internet, or other similar sources = 3-5 hours.

Moderate: Linking of 3-4 linear ancestor generations for personal information and/or for use in documenting applications for heritage organizations such as DAR, SSAR, SCV, etc. = 8-10 hours (linear ancestors = father, grandfather, great-grandfather & so on)

Intermediate: Lateral accumulative information for the 3-4 generations noted in ‘Moderate’ above. This would include searching for siblings (brothers and sisters) and their families, birth, marriage and death dates, etc. as well as locations of homesteads, businesses and possibly, death records & graves = 15-20 hours

Extended: Includes travel to local areas where your ancestors lived and worked. There is much information that cannot be found thru any other source, such as wills, marriage licenses, real estate deeds, death certificates, grave photos and sometimes, homes, properties & businesses = 20-50+ hours**

** Expenses for travel are based on ‘shared costs’. Unless requested otherwise by a client, all of our travel is scheduled 2-3 times per year when we can serve several clients in a single trip to a general area. Often we travel with an RV, therefore avoiding expensive hotels and restaurants to save our clients money.

Payment of Fees: Cash, check or money order. Minimum retainer = $100.   Intermediate & Extended research will have larger retainers based on personal consultation.  Personal contact will be made when funds are requested to discuss the prospects for success and relevant need for further research. Unearned fees will be refunded. If you would like to use your MasterCard or Visa, it is best to call us at (865) 397-6844 where we can take you information over the phone.

Your hourly charge will be for 60 full minutes of research on your case, not including phone calls, breaks or other distractions that may interrupt activity.
